St. Michael's N.S. is a mainstream co-educational school. The original school was first built in 1944. It was replaced by our new school in 1996.

The village has grown rapidly in the last decade and so has the school!

Our school is now a bustling eight classroom school with 185 children. We have an administrative principal, eight class teachers, a Resource teacher, a shared Learning Support teacher, two special needs assistants and a full-time secretary.

ACTIVE SCHOOL

Active School News Update for September 2013
Athletics:
Our athletics coach Nicola Mansel, assisted by Ms. Fleming, Ms. Madden and Mr. Fahey, have has resumed athletics for the new school year. Training sessions are Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:50-9:15. This is a great way for students to start their day as well as giving them a chance to participate in exercise in a fun and relaxed manner. We are also training in mind for the Cross-Country championships that will be held in October. We would encourage as many people as possible to come to the training sessions.
Gaelic Football:
Our U-11 and U-13 football and ladies football teams are back training for the upcoming Cumann na mBunscol football season. We are training at lunch times at present. The boys had a very successful challenge match against Cashel and are confident of a good season ahead. We would remind everyone who is training for the new season mouth guards must be worn at all sessions and matches.
Walk-On-Wednesday (W.O.W.):
After a very successful trial run of W.O.W. before the summer holidays, we have decided to run this event for the new school term. Anyone interested in participating in W.O.W. should meet in the car park of the community field at 8:50. Teachers will be on hand with hi-viz jackets. Once everyone is ready we all walk to school together. It is important that no child is dropped to the community field after 9:00 as we will have commenced our walk to school. This initiative is part of our efforts to achieve on Green Schools Flag for Transport and well as our attempts to secure an Active School Flag for the first time.

Green Flag 2007 - 2008

We are very conscious of our carbon footprint in our school. Last year we were awarded the European Green Flag for our efforts. Everyday a huge effort is made by all the members of our school community to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Some of the things we do:
Compost - members of the Green Flag committee go around to each classroom after lunch and collect all our fruit waste. They bring this to our composter, we will be using the compost in our school garden in the spring.
Recycle - every class has two bins - one is for paper & plastic materials which can be recycled the other is for non recyclable waste (we try to keep this one as empty as possible)

The Tipperary Team

We had a wonderful reception for the Tipperary team members today on September 29th. All the classesd were decked out in blue and gold and cheered wildly. Sean Carey [under 21 winners] and Brendan Cummins held the Liam McCarthy cup aloft. We were also thrilled to meet Diarmuid O Sullivan and The Tipperary Football manager.

Science Excellence Award 2009

Mrs Moore's class have worked towards achieving a Science Excellence award again this year. They held a science night in the school hall in early April and pupils and parents attended. Everyone was impressed by the work done by Mrs Moores class. We know they certainly deserve an award for excellence again this year.

Yes, they did it again !

Mrs Moore's class got the great news today that they have received the Award for Excellence in science again this year 2008-2009. They were all thrilled to hear the news. Well done to all.
Gillian's dance show was a great success. We are amazed how she manages to produce such a variety of dances every year. The costumes were so colourful - those lovely pink Spanish dresses from Lanzarote were a wow! Thank you, Gillian.
Everything went very smoothly. Mrs. Fleming was compere on both nights and did an excellent job. We would like to thank all the sponsors for our raffle. The parents and families of the children were so generous also in buying tickets.
The school is donating half the proceeds to Our Lady's Ward in Crumlin Hospital. It is such a worthy cause. We hope to present the cheque shortly.
